About Me

I have always loved the written word. Whether I was writing the weekly newsletter for my elementary school class, or drafting my very first novel at age thirteen, I always felt a special connection to words. I loved the way they looked, the way they sounded, and the way they could make me feel. When I wasn’t writing, I was busy reading – anything from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter to Toni Morrison’s Beloved. But as I consumed book after book, I began to notice something: tiny, inconspicuous errors dotting the pages of even the most popular titles. A dropped letter here, a missing word there; the kind of mistakes that one might pass by without a second glance, but to me, they were enough to transport me out of the main character’s world and into the nearest dictionary.

It was while attending college at Brandeis University that I began to explore this alternate universe to writing – editing. After all, every great writer needs an editor, and every great editor depends on a writer (or at least their checkbook). So I joined the school’s newspaper, the Justice, as a copy editor. There, I learned about the fascinating world of the Associated Press Stylebook. I also began taking courses toward my English and Creative Writing Double Major, which required me to edit and critique the works of my classmates.

Upon graduation, I joined the creative team at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in South Yarmouth, MA. As an intern, I learned editing and publishing under the guidance of Lauren Wolk, Newbery honor award recipient and author of Wolf Hollow. Lauren and I co-founded Bass River Press, a small poetry press dedicated to publishing one full manuscript by a local poet each year. As editor of the Press, I poured through dozens of poetry manuscripts each summer, passing along a handful of finalists to a judge for approval. After the judge completed his/her selection, I worked side-by-side with the book’s author for several months, editing and preparing the book for print. I also handled the interior design and layout of the book, including fonts, pagination, formatting, and more. Other responsibilities included advertising, door-to-door sales, hosting a book launch party, and spearheading the Press’s social media presence.

In 2018 I developed Fine Tuned Editing, a service that I hope will provide support to writers worldwide.  I offer two types of editing: copy editing and substantive editing. My specialty is working with manuscripts, particularly of the fiction or poetry variety, but I will accept inquiries for all editing needs.

In my ample spare time, I also self-publish my own books! My debut series, a YA dystopian/sci-fi trilogy titled The Cerenia Chronicles, is available in paperback and Kindle eBook format on Amazon.
